Cubaris Crazy Horse Care

Crazy Horse should be kept in a warm, humid enclosure with good ventilation and plenty of sheltered areas. Like other tropical Cubaris, they appreciate stability and may spend much of their time beneath bark, leaf litter and within the upper layers of the substrate.

Use a deep, nutritious substrate containing decomposing leaf matter and rotten hardwood. The substrate should remain damp enough to support humidity without becoming saturated or stagnant. Create a defined moist refuge at one end of the enclosure using sphagnum moss, while allowing the opposite end to remain slightly drier. This gives the colony a useful moisture gradient rather than making the entire enclosure uniformly wet.

Feeding

A permanent layer of decaying hardwood and leaf litter should form the foundation of their diet. This can be supplemented occasionally with vegetables, specialist isopod food and small amounts of protein. A reliable calcium source should also remain available to support healthy moulting and breeding.

Establishing Your Colony

Cubaris colonies often benefit from patience and minimal disturbance while they settle. Provide plenty of cover, maintain consistent warmth and moisture, and avoid repeatedly lifting hides to check on them. Once established, their wonderfully varied black-and-white markings make every sighting worth the wait.
