Golden Spikes Flat-backed Millipede (Luzonomorpha picea)

The Golden Spikes Flat-backed Millipede (Luzonomorpha picea) is a striking Philippine flat-backed millipede with a glossy dark body and bright golden-yellow edging along the lateral keels. In our animals, the contrast is especially sharp: the centre of the body reads almost jet black, while the raised outer edges form a continuous yellow-gold line down both sides.

That combination gives the species a very angular, armour-plated appearance. Rather than the rounded cylindrical profile of many millipedes, Luzonomorpha picea sits low and flat, with each body segment extending outward into clearly defined keels.
