Cubaris Firefly Hematite

Cubaris Firefly Hematite

Cubaris Firefly Hematite is the historical reference line within the Firefly range, with a clearly labelled lineage and the approved relationship to Pink.

Visually, Hematite has a smoky, mineral-toned look. The body is rounded and the overall colour sits in muted grey, charcoal and grey-purple shades. Rather than reading as bright or high-contrast, it has a dark, softly jewel-toned presence. Markings, edge colour and the strength of the purple cast can vary between individuals, so the colony may show subtle differences from one animal to the next.

For keepers, that variation is part of the appeal. In a well-set enclosure, you may notice them tucked under cork, moving through leaf litter or sitting in the darker parts of the substrate where the tones are easiest to appreciate. The species is best understood through observation over time rather than through a promise of constant visibility.

The setup should follow the shared Firefly care framework: a stable enclosure with cover, leaf litter, moisture balance and enough structure for the animals to settle. If you want the broader husbandry picture, the Fireflies Care Guide is the best place to start.

This page is aimed at collectors and experienced keepers who want a historically significant Firefly line with clear labelling. If you are maintaining the line carefully, the Fireflies Breeding Guide can help you maintain Firefly lineage records, while Pink Firefly from the Hematite lineage is the approved related line to consider next.

These are live animals from the Hematite line, ready to be established into a suitable Firefly setup. As with any live isopod culture, the best results come from giving them a stable enclosure and time to settle before expecting much activity.
