Food, Calcium or Water: Choosing an Enclosure Bowl
Start with what you want to offer, rather than buying a bowl for every possible job. Food, dry calcium and water need different containers and routines. A dedicated bowl can make a feeding spot easier to inspect or give a supplement its own place, but it does not replace the substrate, leaf litter and moisture provision your animals need.
For isopods and millipedes, choose accessories around the species and the enclosure you already maintain. The mourning gecko calcium bowl is a separate design with different entrances; it should not be treated as simply a larger version of the invertebrate bowl.
Food: make offered portions easy to find and remove
A food bowl is useful when you want a defined place for supplementary food. It keeps the portion together rather than scattered through the substrate, making it easier to inspect leftovers and lift them out. That is particularly practical when replacing a moist food portion without disturbing the surrounding litter.
The isopod and millipede food bowl measures 68mm across and 11.5mm high. These are overall dimensions for planning its place in the enclosure, not a feeding allowance. Choose portions and foods for the animals you keep; a bowl is a serving spot, not a complete diet.
Put it somewhere you can reach without dismantling the enclosure. Inspect offered food during your normal checks and remove spoiled or unwanted leftovers. A removable bowl lets you take the feeding spot out for cleaning rather than trying to work around it in the substrate.
Dry calcium: use a container intended for powder
If you offer dry calcium in your isopod or millipede setup, the covered dry-calcium bowl gives it a dedicated place. Its three entrances reach the internal floor, while the lift-off lid gives access for checking the contents and cleaning.
Those floor-level openings matter when filling it: this is not a container for retaining a deep layer of powder, and it is not a water dish. Keep the contents dry and position it away from direct watering so you are not routinely wetting the powder. Leave room above the 60mm-diameter, 15mm-high bowl to remove its lid.
The bowl organises calcium you choose to provide; it does not establish a universal supplementation requirement or dose. Calcium powder is supplied separately. Replace contents that have become damp or contaminated, then clean and dry the bowl before adding fresh powder.
Mourning geckos: choose the separate calcium design
The mourning gecko calcium bowl is intended to hold dry calcium in a mourning gecko enclosure. It has three raised-sill entrances and a matching lift-off lid, rather than the floor-level entrances of the isopod and millipede design.
At a nominal 70mm diameter and 23mm high, it also needs a different amount of space. Choose its position so you can lift off the lid to refill and clean it. The supplied bowl and lid do not include calcium, and the container itself does not determine the supplementation routine for your geckos.
Water: a separate option, not an automatic requirement
A water dish serves a different purpose from a dry-calcium bowl. If offering standing water is part of your species-appropriate routine, the compact removable water bowl provides a separate place for it. It measures 55mm across and 8mm high and is supplied as a bowl only.
Not every isopod or millipede setup needs standing water. A dish also does not replace suitable substrate moisture: retain the damp refuges your isopods need, and manage moisture within millipede substrate rather than relying on a bowl to hydrate the habitat.
Where you use a water bowl, place it somewhere accessible for inspection and removal. Refresh the water and remove litter or food that falls into it; clean the bowl when soiled. Its overall height is not a recommendation for water depth or a guarantee of suitability for every animal size.
Choose quantities around your maintenance routine
The food, calcium and water bowls each offer quantities of one, two or four. One can serve a single chosen placement; several can equip separate enclosures. For food bowls, a spare can also let you swap a used bowl out for cleaning. Covered calcium bowls each come with their own matching lid, while the water bowl is supplied without one.
These bowls are PETG. For the calcium and water designs, the supplied cleaning instruction is to rinse or clean with water and avoid contaminants. Lift off calcium-bowl lids to reach the interior, and let a cleaned calcium bowl dry before refilling. Keep bowls accessible enough that checking, removing and replacing them remains a straightforward part of enclosure care.
