Asian Forest Blend Leaf Litter

Asian Forest Blend Leaf Litter is a generous 5-litre mixture containing two complementary types of Asian leaf litter: Purpurea leaves and Macaranga leaves.

This is not a generic mixture padded out with other leaves. Each bag is made up exclusively of these two leaf types, creating a varied layer of different thicknesses, textures, shapes and rates of decomposition.

A Blend of Faster and Slower-Breaking Leaves

The thinner Macaranga leaves begin softening and breaking down relatively quickly. This makes them useful for establishing an accessible layer of grazing material as fungi, microbes and other decomposers begin colonising the leaves.

The thicker Purpurea leaves are generally more substantial and longer lasting. They provide durable cover, enclosure structure and a slower-developing food source that remains available after the thinner leaves have begun to break apart.

Together, the two leaves create a more useful forest-floor layer than relying on a single leaf type alone:

Rich Natural Forest Aroma

One of the most noticeable features of this blend is its incredible smell. Opening the bag releases a rich, warm and naturally earthy forest aroma that immediately distinguishes it from ordinary temperate leaf litter.

Ideal for Asian-Origin Invertebrates

Asian Forest Blend is particularly well suited to enclosures containing Asian-origin isopods and millipedes, although it can be used with a wide range of detritivorous invertebrates and bioactive setups.

How to Use

Add a generous layer across the substrate surface, leaving some leaves whole to create overlapping hides and sheltered feeding areas. Smaller pieces can also be mixed lightly into the upper substrate layer to encourage gradual decomposition.

As the thinner leaves are consumed and broken down, add more without necessarily removing the remaining thicker leaves. This helps maintain a continuous supply of food, cover and decomposing organic matter.

Pack Size

Leaf size, shape and colour will naturally vary between bags. The 5-litre volume is measured when loosely packed, and some settling may occur during transport.
